The arrangements for the prevention and protection of children against abuse

  • The home shall employ a watchman at night to guard the children.
  • The home shall also educate and advice the children about abuse like rape, sodomy and drug abuse then precautions shall be given for them to understand what to do incase such a thing happens.
  • The boys shall sleep in different rooms from the girls
  • The home shall advice on the good clothing and manners for the children.
  • The home shall ensure that all parts of the home to which the children have access are free from hazards to their safety.
  • The home shall ensure that activities in which children participate are so far as reasonable participate free from avoidable risks.
  • The home shall ensure unnecessary risks to the health or safety of children accommodated in the home are eliminated.
  • The home shall not entertain visitors who smoke in front of the children. They shall put a notice of NO SMOKING.
  • The home shall make suitable arrangements for all children and persons working at the children’s home to be trained with first aids skills and disaster preparedness and management.

 

 

The fire precautions and any other emergency procedures in the home

  • The home shall take adequate precautions against the risk of fire, including the provision of suitable fire equipment. We shall also use the local fire extinguishers and teach the children and staff on how to utilize it which are sand and wet sisal sack.
  • The home shall provide adequate means of escape like emergency doors
  • The home shall make adequate arrangements for detecting, containing and extinguishing fires by either smell of gas from gas cookers of smoke.

  • The home shall where possible consult with relevant fire authorities.
  • Every child will present the cases freely without abstraction from anyone.
  • If the child is young, someone of an older age will represent the child’s complaints. Either an older child, or matron, or teacher, or caretaker.
  • The child shall give the name of the accused person or staff.
  • The accusation shall be presented on what has happened and what time it happened.
  • The manager shall be in charge of the accusations or if critical the administering authority shall take the necessary actions and a record of every complaint shall be kept.
  • In some cases an investigation report shall be required to know what action should be taken
